Self Help Guide

You either own your home or rent it and have responsibility to pay for repairs. Maybe you have noticed that some repairs are needed. Maybe, you or a member of your family is disabled, and you need some adaptations to make it easier to maintain your independence or care for someone else. Perhaps you would like to make some improvements to your home to make it more comfortable. Now, you are wondering how to pay for all this and how to find reliable builders or tradesmen who will not overcharge you or do poor work.

How can you be sure exactly what work is needed? What are your rights and responsibilities? Which organisations or professionals can assist you? Where can you find the money to pay for the work you want? How can you ensure that the building work runs smoothly? If something does go wrong, who can help you to put things right?

In Good Repair will help you find answers to these questions. In Good Repair is written by Care & Repair England in consultation with the Elders Council of Newcastle upon Tyne.
